John’s Saturday afternoon update.

The MRI results are in and our suspicions of a brain stem stroke have been confirmed.  Specifically, it was a stroke in the pons of the brain stem; the pons part of the brain controls one’s ability to be conscience.

At this point, there is no real treatment except to see if he improves.  Sometimes there is some improvement over the course of 3 or 4 days.  As such, until Monday or Tuesday, we will be in a holding pattern.  During this time, John will receive neurology exams every few hours to determine if he is waking up.  This will includes things like shining light in his eyes, checking his reflexes, testing his ability to follow commands, his response to pain, etc.  He will remain intubated and will be treated for any ancillary issues like infections.

He has been moved back to Auburn, where he will remain.

Romans 8:39

Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
