One more update tonight.

I spoke to Aunt Dot just a bit ago.  Her voice sounded strong.  She believes that God can heal.  Her faith runs deep.  She and Lora have read the comments from the blog and come back to them repeatedly.  Keep them coming.  Your comments lift the spirits of the Courtneys.  They are so grateful for the prayers, words, and love.

Dot also mentioned the dedicated hospital staff, who are becoming like family.  I doubt they are reading this, but I sure am grateful for the sweet people taking care of our John, and all the Courtneys.  There is good in this world!  Praise God!

    Precious Dorthy and Family,
I just got off the phone with Rochelle, hearing the news…
We have gathered together as a family to pray for John. As our pastor stated today in church, we shall put our trust in the Lord and count on Him. You can put all your weight on Him! God loves and cares deeply about John, and is with him this very moment.
Please let us know how we can help.
All our love, Irene, Bruce, Elizabeth, and Andrew

  12. Dean, Rochelle, Matthew, Jacob, and Emma

    Dorthy,
The first thing that came into my heart when I found out about all of this was to thank God for the awesome privilege of being able to pray so deeply and so strongly for such an extraordinarily wonderful man. I know this about him because I know you. I love God for listening to my prayers and I thank Him because I have someone to pray to.
You are a light, John is a light, and your children are lights. You aren’t the regular type of lights that make a room just bright enough to see so you can find what you need. You guys are those kind of lights that shine so brightly World Series games are won with you, ships are saved in storms by your brightness, and surgeons do their best and most important work by you. Your lights don’t fade in storms, they actually grows brighter. You all know that in storms, God does His best work. You know what He did on the Sea of Galilee, you saw Him calm the storm in the heart of the woman at the well, and all of us are beneficiaries of the storm of prayer that began in the Garden and ended at the Cross. That same God is doing His best work now.
He is alive in every single prayer that is prayed. He is achieving miracles with every praise from your lips-especially when the praises come from the places of greatest faith. He is the One who brings you back to the Truth when satan has you tangled up in one of his lies of doubt. He is YOUR God of Hope. This is a storm and He is doing His best work here.
God wants to encourage You with these truths.
I love you. I really, really love you.
    Rochelle

  13. You are in my thoughts and prayers. If you need anything please let me know. Your family has been there for my family and i will be here for yours.

  14. Matthew LaRocca

  15. Hello, I know you don’t know me but my name is Dennis, I’m a landscape architect who’s been working with John on a large project in Loomis. I have a great deal of respect for John as a mason and more importantly as a Christian husband and father. I’m amazed at the out pouring of love for John and his family I see on this blog and your comments. I will keep John, Dorothy and the rest of his family in my prayers.

  16. Praying, praying, praying for you and your family. Our God is truly and awesome God and He can do all things.

  17. Dear sweet Courtney Family,
You are on my mind day and night and as I think of you I am praying for you! I am so thankful that we have the most amazing Healer/Physician on our side and that He loves us and hears our prayers! Dorothy, your faith is so strong, you are an amazing example to us all. The Wickstrom Family loves you all and wants you to know that if there is anything other than prayer that you need us to do we are here for you! Thank you for keeping all of us prayer warriors up-to-date with this awesome blog. We love you.

  18. The Woodards

John is one tough hombre. That, along with all the prayers streaming his way offers so much hope and *faith*. I have placed him and the family on even more prayer chains. Some of our other friends that don’t even know John or his family are also praying and on the telephone asking others to pray as well. John is covered in prayers for his full healing and recovery and so is the family!
Dot, if you tell him Obama was impeached maybe it will help him wake up? (wink)

  19. Dear Aunt Dot, Lora, Andy, John,

You were all over my heart today in church. We sang, “Nothing can separate us from the love of our Father,” and I was overcome with thankfulness for that promise, especially for you guys right now. My prayer for you when I don’t know what else to pray is from Numbers 6:24-26 “The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’

On a very practical note: from my experience working in a hospital, the rooms with a basket of chocolate by the bedside got more attention from staff than others without. Don’t know if they allow that in ICU, but keep that tucked away for when he improves and goes to the floor.

I love you and am praying for all of you!
Blessings, Laura Wooley (Scott’s sister in Austin)

    Dorthy,

God connected us in a special way this year and I have to tell you my heart is breaking for you and your family. I trust God though and know that He has you in the palm of His hand and will carry you through this. Our family is praying for you and John. You are never far in my thoughts. Josh told me he prayed a very good prayer for you and for John’s healing. I love to see how God is bringing all the love you have poured out back to you during this time. I also love the power of prayer and how it connects all of us together at this time no matter how far away. I hope the power of these prayers are felt every moment of your day like each one of us wrapping you in a big bear hug all at the same time.

    Much love,
    Erica, Bob, Katelyn and Josh

  24. Dianne McGarey-Luce

Dear Dorothy, Lora, Andy & Melba:

My brother, James, contacted me with the news about what has happened. Be assured that you are all in my thoughts and prayers as I remember the many wonderful visits to your home where I was always made to feel welcome and loved. I keep reminding myself that we cannot possibly know what God has in mind at a time like this. It all seems so unfair, yet we are to trust Him in every situation . . . even this one. Please know how much I love you as I continue to go to the throne room on your behalf. I do believe in miracles, and I do believe that John is serving some great purpose to glorify our Heavenly Father.

If there is anything I can do for you, now or in the future, please do not hesitate to call on me.

    Forever in Christ,
    Dianne

  25. Marae Lengtat

    Dear dorthy,
“This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
I know that you have shared that scripture with so many people to encourage and lift their spirits. I pray that it will encourage you today. We don’t understand all of God’s ways but we can trust HIm in them. I am continuing to pray that God will keep you wrapped in HIs love and peace today. I am also praying for healing for John.
    I love you.
    Marae

  27. Ronna Harper

    Dorthy,
My heart is breaking reading about your husband, but I know my God has you in the palm of his hand. I know he can heal if that is his will and he can comfort if that is not his will. I am praying for healing! Please know that there are many from FLCS who love and adore you. We will lift you and your family up in prayer continually.
    With love,
    Ronna Harper

  28. Hi sweet dorthy,
The sad news about John made it down the hill. I have been praying for all you often. You have always been such an encouragement to everyone. I hope you can be encouraged just by knowing how much so many people love and care for you and your family. I want to leave you with God’s Word. I know that you know His Word comforts us like no one else can do. “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
    I love you.
